Arrival of support beams to cause delays for I-75 work
After a couple of delays related to safety concerns and permitting, the first steel beam for Lee County’s Estero Parkway Extension project is expected to ship from Tampa tonight and arrive at the project site around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, Feb. 25. This will be a slow-moving, wide-load truck escorted by law enforcement, and will be entering Lee County via Interstate 75.
Traveling southbound, the truck will exit I-75 at Alico Road, go west and turn left onto Three Oaks Parkway, and then travel south to the project site opposite Estero Parkway.
If the first beam arrives as anticipated Wednesday morning, then it will be installed Wednesday night, which will require closure of the section of I-75 between Corkscrew Road and Alico Road between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. During the closure, northbound interstate traffic will be diverted onto Corkscrew Road and up Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, and southbound interstate traffic will be diverted onto Alico Road and down Three Oaks Parkway.
The second of sixteen steel beams is expected to ship from Tampa either Wednesday night or Thursday night. It will then be installed the following night, which will involve the same interstate closure noted above for the first beam.
Information about the closures will also be posted on the electronic message signs in the work area. Additional information about future beam deliveries and installations will be provided at a later date.
