Operation Safe Neighborhood continues in FMPD

The Fort Myers Police Department continues its crackdown on people who illegally carry firearms. Undercover vice and uniformed patrol removed 33-guns from city streets for the month of January, the department said.

The FMPD’s Operation Safe Neighborhood is a proactive approach to reducing crime and improve quality of life in the city of Fort Myers. The department’s goal is to identify and arrest people who commit violent crimes and arrest individuals who illegally possess firearms.

In its efforts during January, the department made 472 citizen contacts,

236 traffic stops, 91 traffic tickets, 23 arrests and 13 felony charges.
