Fort Myers Police Traffic Unit enforcement areas

By Staff | Jan 20, 2009

The Fort Myers Police Department’s Traffic Unit is committed to increasing traffic safety and awareness on city streets. Based on citizen complaints, recent crash data and information from neighborhood watch groups, the Traffic Unit will focus law enforcement efforts at the following locations for the week of Jan. 19, 2009:

– Edison and Midpoint Bridges

– 10000 block of Treeline Avenue

– First Street

– School zones (Central Avenue, Deleon Street, Henderson Avenue)

In addition to the above traffic enforcement the Traffic Unit will be conducting a driver’s license checkpoint sometime this week. The exact location of the checkpoint will not be disclosed in advance. All vehicles entering the checkpoint will be stopped and officers will check drivers for a current license and registration. This type of checkpoint is designed to detect and apprehend drivers who do not have a valid license or who may have a suspended or revoked license. Also, it is designed to detect those who have not registered or insured their vehicle. Police remind city drivers to allow extra time to get to their destination because delays should be expected.
